Second Meeting of ECSM General Assembly

The General Board of Ethical Charter for Syrian Media (ECSM) held its second General Assembly meeting on Saturday and Sunday, February 9-10, 2019 in Istanbul. The meeting was attended by 20 representatives of 21 member Syrian media organizations.

The assembly endorsed during the meeting its own statue, in addition to discussing the strategic plan for the year 2019 and the budget of the years 2017, 2018 and 2019.

The meeting ended with the presentation of the proposals and recommendations of the general assembly which included:

– Allocating a special part of the charter in the training courses of member organizations.

– Adding a special article to work contracts in member organizations that is related to abiding with the charter’s terms and forcing workers to sign the charter.

– Working on developing journalistic content in member originations and committing to professionality.

– Working vividly on establishing complaints committee.

The first session was started by an opening word by the General Board of ECSM and introducing the current board of directors. In the second meeting the annual report was presented and discussed, in addition to the budget. The third session was devoted to explaining the development of data base of ECSM members, in addition to presenting and discussing amendments of the statue and membership policy.


The first session of the second day was opened by voting on the statue after inserting amendments proposed during the first day. All attendants agreed on amendments in the statue and thus was endorsed by the general assembly. The session was then concluded by presenting the external financial checking report. The second session discussed the strategic plan and the requirements of the members for the year 2019. Some amendments were inserted into the strategic plan and was later adopted by the general assembly. In the third session, the current year budget was presented and discussed. An open discussion then followed regarding the commitment of member organizations in the ethical principles and the role of ECSM.


ECSM was established in 2015. Member organizations number 32, with 26 of them acting as members of the general assembly. ECSM worked on dealing with complaints coming from journalists and media organizations.
